Practice Makes

ROLE: UX / UI  & GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Overview

Practice Makes is a team of Accenture designers who create a space where the local creative community can connect and learn. It is a meet-up series for creative-minded folks in the broader tech and design community.  Speakers run the gamut of disciplines: designers, strategists, developers, and more. As the event has grown across our other studios in Houston and NYC, we needed a website to serve as a platform for information on upcoming events as well as the history of Practice Makes.

Branding

Each Practice Makes event is meant to feel unique to that event’s theme. In preparation for a multitude of topics, industries, and audiences the brand palette is intentionally expansive.  The website is meant to use the standard branding with black and white to carry over the minimal, clean design, as well as stay neutral to work with any and all color combos used for events.

Wireframes

Starting with whiteboarding, the team had multiple working sessions to create the site's architecture. A long-scroll site was decided on as the best treatment. The user should be able to select their city, sign up for the upcoming event as well as get a high-level overview of what Practice Makes is.

Final Design

As each studio has its own Practice Makes team, each microsite was designed to give a sense of community for that studio and its history with Practice Makes. Similar to the overall brand, the sites all follow the minimalist design structure with a slight variance depending on the city, events and social posts.

Long-Scroll

Each city has a long-scroll microsite to give an overview of Practice Makes and how it has evolved in each city as well as a place where the user can sign up for the upcoming event. As the user scrolls, the side nav will remain sticky to guide them.

Social Media

Practice Makes has a strong following on social media and the website is used as a platform to promote their social accounts. The team uses Instagram as a space to not only promote events, but also a place to share our knowledge on design as a whole. We've created multiple social post series including designer birthdays and Lil' Bits where we share fun and useful design tips & tricks.
